Dr. Sara Mahan is a licensed clinical psychologist who specializes in psychological testing, psycho-educational testing, and developmental testing with individuals of all ages, including toddlers, children, adolescents, and young adults. She also conducts Independent Education Evaluations (IEEs). She has extensive experience in diagnostic concerns related to Autism Spectrum Disorder, Intellectual Disabilities, ADHD, Specific Learning Disorders, anxiety, selective mutism, emotion dysregulation, and executive functioning differences, among other concerns. Dr. Mahan’s expertise in psychological testing helps families to determine strengths and weaknesses across various areas of functioning, aids in differential diagnosis of symptoms and, most importantly, informs recommendations that promote personal growth and optimal development.

Dr. Mahan also provides individual therapy that will help you reach your goals and enhance quality of life in a collaborative manner. For therapy treatment, Dr. Mahan specializes in work with children, adolescents and families with challenges related to anxiety, emotion regulation and understanding, social skills, toileting, improving problem behavior, Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, and Selective Mutism, among other presenting concerns. Dr. Mahan also works with young adults diagnosed with ASD and/or Intellectual Disability in helping to improve social skills and other life skills.

Dr. Mahan earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Pennsylvania State University and PhD in clinical psychology in 2011 from Louisiana State University (LSU). Throughout her graduate training, Dr. Mahan completed psychological and psycho-educational testing with toddlers, children, adolescents, and young adults for a variety of presenting concerns and has a clinical specialty in diagnostic testing for Autism Spectrum Disorder across the lifespan. She completed an APA accredited predoctoral program through Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta where she worked at Marcus Autism Center. Her postdoctoral training was completed with Emory University and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta where she also specialized in assessment of neurodevelopmental concerns in the community and in schools. Dr. Mahan has been in private practice in Dunwoody, Georgia since 2014. She works in the Dunwoody office at Healthy Minds Psychology Associates and can be reached by email at admin@hmpsychology.com.
